What Is An Effluent Treatment Plant?

  • by

Our earth covers about 71% of water which is one of the most important natural resources on the planet and is very essential for life. But, with the rapid growth of different industries, statistics have been showing a higher percentage in the discharge of untreated industrial wastewater to wetlands, rivers and coastal areas. This has increased the level of pollution and has even caused serious life hazards for the entire eco- system and human life.

Wastewater contains many harmful substances and cannot be released back into the environment until it is treated. Thus, the importance of wastewater treatment is twofold i.e.; to restore the water supply and to protect the planet from toxins.

As a solution to this fact, the need for introducing Effluent Treatment Plants manufactured by reputable  ETP manufacturer comes into play.

An Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) is the key when it comes to industrial wastewater treatment. In simple words, ETP, is a system that removes toxic and non-toxic material/chemicals from wastewater and once treated, the industrial wastewater (or effluent) can be reused or discharged into a sanitary sewer or into the environment’s surface water.

Hence, when wastewater is being treated through ETP, there are four basic stages involved:

  1. Preliminary Treatment

In this stage, removal of solids, oil & grease present in the effluent takes place through processes such as sedimentation, filtration, aeration, flow equalization, clarification and screening

2. Primary   Treatment

Here, both physical and chemical processes are involved that remove the floating & settable substances such as suspended solids and organic matters.

3. Secondary  Treatment

This level uses biological and chemical processes to remove the Biodegradable Organic Matter (BOD).

4. Tertiary Treatment

Uses the physical, chemical and biological processes, utilized together to break down the residual suspended solids and dissolved solids.

Effluent Treatment Plants play a critical part of the large-scale manufacturing industries such as Textile, Pharmaceutical, Leather, Chemical etc, since without ETP it would be really difficult for industries to treat wastewater. They are extremely cost-effective and ensure complying with industry standards and regulations. This system aims to clean and recycle industrial wastewater to protect the environment from pollution and contribute to a long-term sustainable development process.

Now that we know what an ETP is and how it basically functions, let us now look at some of the prime advantages of  it:

  • Minimises the generation of wastewater from its source
  • Treats the wastewater at minimal running cost & operational cost
  • Makes industries self-sustainable
  • Saves water by reducing the amount of fresh/potable water used

Environment-friendly solution

With this you must be fully aware about the importance of having an Effluent Treatment Plant.

Therefore, now it is your turn to contribute towards a clean, green and safe planet.
